Single-Window Interface
It's hard enough mustering up the courage to track your spending without having to also track a dozen windows in the process. MoneyWell puts everything in one clean window. The document window is split into three major panels. On the left is the accounts and buckets, transactions are in the middle and details on the right.
Click an account to see the transactions in it. Click a bucket to filter the list down more to just those transactions in that bucket. Click a transaction to see the details at the right. You can even mix combinations by selecting multiple accounts or buckets at the same time—all without leaving this one window.
Clickable Graph
Below the transactions list is a Cash Flow Graph that shows how much has been spent each month. A dotted outline shows your planned spending amount for that bucket and red hash lines appear if you go over your budgeted number. You can scroll easily to view historic spending by clicking the controls at the left edge of the graph or by using the page dots at the top.
The best part of this graph is that you can click any column to filter your transactions list. Click the "Oct 2007" bar and filter your transactions and bucket details to only that month. Click the background of the graph to go back to viewing all months.
Scheduled Transactions
Unfortunately, most bills don't stop after the first time you pay them—they just keep coming and coming and coming.
MoneyWell lets you manage your Scheduled Transactions and see with a click what needs to be paid next. You can set these to repeat daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly with options to skip weeks or months and stop after a count or on a date.
Of course you can also schedule the good stuff too, like paychecks and bonuses. You can quickly just enter a single scheduled transaction and it will be marked as "Pending" until you say it's real. This is a great way to forecast your future cash flow.
Memorized Transactions
We tend to shop and spend at the same places and have repetitious bills and expenses. MoneyWell automatically builds a list of Memorized Transactions for you as you import or enter transactions. The next time you start to type a payee name that matches one of these, MoneyWell will complete the transaction entry for you.
You can quickly toggle between the "Current" view or transactions and your "Memorized" transactions by using the selector in the title bar above the transactions list.
Search Transactions
Sometimes you need to find a specific transaction and you can't remember what month or bucket it's in. Using Search Transactions, you can type any text and MoneyWell will find all related transactions. You can even use the field menu to narrow down your search to the memo field or check number.
Even the graph will redraw to show your filtered selection. When your done with your filtered view, click the cancel button to return to all transactions.
Smart Buckets
MoneyWell also gives you Smart Buckets so you can view consolidated groupings of transactions. The "All Transactions" bucket gives you just what it states: All transactions.
The "Last Import" bucket will show you the set of transactions from your most recent import.
The "Transfers" bucket is the newest addition. Bucket assignments are optional for transfer transactions, which is why this bucket is nice. You have one spot to go to view all your transfers.
The "Unassigned" bucket helps you find transactions that you may have forgotten to assign to a bucket. Remember that you need to track everything you spend to stay on track so keep this bucket empty.
